CANCELLED – Sorry – all of the following events have been cancelled due to some unfortunate and unexpected events in the life of the main organizer.
WHAT: An opportunity for people to meet and knit in public on some of the benches featured in a new Victoria guidebook, Victoria Bench by Bench
WHY: Over the last decade, knitting in public has become an increasingly popular pastime. It brings knitters out of isolation and the art of knitting to a wider audience. Knitting on the benches around Victoria is a delightful way to pass the time, gain a fresh perspective of Victoria, and participate in a celebration of the fibre arts: knitting, weaving, spinning, felting, crochet.
WHO: Knitters and the general public
WHEN: May 1st, 15th and 29th, June 5th (Sundays, 1 – 3 pm)
WHERE:
HOW: You are invited to join us on any or all of these Sundays:

This sounds like a lot of fun! I’ve enjoyed attending knitting events at Saxe Point Park and at Mile Zero over the last few years. Last year, a woman came to the Mile Zero knitting event with a half-finished sock and a knitting pattern. “I can’t do heels yet,” she said. “But I hope someone here can show me how.” Of course several knitters conferred at once, and found someone who spent the next half-hour teaching the woman how to knit that kind of heel.
The Bench by Bench idea sounds terrific. I can get to any of these locations by bus. Looking forward to attending!
May 29 – brought my knitting to Selkirk, but perhaps this is the wrong bench…
Where are you?!
I’m so sorry. The organizer had to cancel – I should have posted an update.
Sorry to hear. Maybe next time. Enjoy the day.
